Law 12 - 2011-12 School Year

Welcome to Law 12!

Law 12 is an academic elective. Most of you have chosen this course because you need eight blocks on your time table. Some of you have chosen this course because you are drawn into police shows and lawyer shows on TV. Some of you have chosen Law 12 because you can see yourself in a law-related career. Whatever the reason for your choice, our goal is to be all inclusive and open to different ideas and interests. Therefore, your are invited to participate actively, get involved, and take responsibility for your learning and your individual progress.

Law 12 involves reading, a lot of reading, discussion and clear expression of thought. This takes time and practice. Listening can be more important than talking, but listening with a critical ear in order to question the subject matter or the key points presented. Law 12 does not have clear answers to most of your questions but seeks out to present major principles that can help you understand legal issues and find solutions to legal problems.

Law 12 will involve some forms of debate. Debates are not shouting matches where the loudest voice wins. Debates are won based on logical arguments based on reason. You will see how this works down the road. Therefore, don't be rash and jump to conclusions without a foundation.

Once the classes have settled and become stable, you will be given a textbook, which will be the main source of your research. You will find questions for various chapters at mrmuellersocials.weebly.com You will be given 20 minutes at the beginning of each class to read your text, take notes, and prepare or discuss answers to these questions. This will be followed by classwork and group work or project work, depending on our schedule.

Homework will be marked as completion. You do your work, you get your mark, simple as that.
